TASK 2 - Download the Student Correction Key from Lehrer für Schüler Tausch > 4CHMIF > Sandrock > StudentCorrectionKey

TASK 3 - Rewrite blog text (Should Cell Phones be used in the Lessons?).  Sandrock needs both the original and the rewrite.  For best results, paste the original on the left side of your HÜ Heft and write the corrections on the right side.  Don't forget:  LINIERTES PAPIER MIT KORREKTURRAND

TASK 4 - Write an article for an English language magazine for Austrian HTL students.  The topic of your article is how you can improve your English in a fun way.  In your article you should:

* State the problem of having English only two hours a week
* Describe fun ways in which you can improve your listening, grammar and pronunciation
* Comment on your own method of learning English (give your best English learning tip)

Write about 250 words (+/- 10%)

Write a response to John Green's vlog, "Understanding the Refugee Crisis in Syria, Europe and around the World."   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVV6_1Sef9M  Remember when you write a comment, you are responding to something that has been said, and you are agreeing or disagreeing with it.  You are giving your own opinion and you have to support your opinion with facts.

Respond to anything John Green says about refugees and human rights.  You can agree with him or disagree with him but you have to say WHY you agree or disagree with him.  Be specific.  I want to know what you are specifically responding to and what your specific argument is.

Start your comment with a short summary of the video (the gist).

Write about 200-250 words.

If you want to send me a draft via email, I will be happy to give you feedback.

Due at the beginning of class on Wednesday, November 4.  Then we are moving on to another topic.

In preparation for class on Wednesday, watch this video below by John Green.  You can turn on the subtitles to catch everything he says - he speaks very quickly!

Be able to discuss the following questions:
* Who is John Green? What country does he represent in his vlog? Why should we trust him?
* What is the political situation in Syria?  What caused it?
* How many refugees are there (compare with the total number of Syrians)?
* Which countries are hosting the largest number of refugees?
* What is the distinction between "migrants" and "refugees"?
* What are the rights of refugees (and what gives them these rights?)?
* Syrians account for about half the asylum seekers.  Where does the other half come from?
* According to Green, who is to blame for the refugee crisis? Make a list.
* Do refugees and immigrants commit more crimes than Americans?  Do you think they commit more crimes than Europeans?
* What is Green's response to "It's not our problem" "We have to take care of our own people"?  Do you agree or disagree with Green's argument?
* Do you agree that 'regional crises have no global importance'?
* What does Green mean when he says "The hardest work is not in making the promise, but keeping it"?  What promise is he talking about?

To complete this homework, you will create a Word file.  Call this file LASTNAMEFIRST INITIAL.doc.  For example, SANDROCKJ.doc  Put your name at the top of the document.

TASK 1:  Read the article on page 23-24 of your textbook, Focus on Modern Technology 3.  Do exercise 2 on page 24 (write a summary of the article on page 23-24).

BACKGROUND:  The Apprentice is a reality TV show from the United Kingdom.  Lord Sugar invites contestants to compete for £250,000 and a chance to be Lord Sugar's business partner.  Each week, Lord Sugar fires the contestants who made the biggest business mistakes.

In this episode, the contestants are divided into two teams, and each team must produce and sell high-end candles.  All aspects of MARKETING are here:  from product development, to production, packaging, pricing, marketing and selling the candles -- all within 48 hours!

HOMEWORK:  As you watch the episode, make notes about the decisions that each team makes.  Are they good decisions or bad decisions?  What does Lord Sugar have to say at the end?
